Troy Graves, who pleaded guilty last week to murder and rape charges stemming from a series of attacks on women in Center City, was returned this morning to Colorado to begin serving a life sentence.
As part of his plea bargain, Graves was spared the death penalty and allowed to serve his sentence in Colorado.
He left Philadelphia shortly after 9 this morning on a United Airlines flight to Denver. He was taken by two Philadelphia sheriff's officials under tight security, and boarded the plane separately from other passengers.
He originally was scheduled to leave yesterday morning, but the trip was postponed for a day because of security problems.
Last Thursday, Common Pleas Court Judge Benjamin Lerner sentenced Graves to life in prison without parole plus 60 to 120 years for attacks on six women in Philadelphia, including the slaying of Wharton graduate student Shannon Schieber.
Those sentences are to follow the life sentence Graves received May 17 for seven attacks on women that began last year in Fort Collins, Colo.
