 27. Files, Moving from Old to New Computer

There is a program called Alohabob, which despite its stupid name is quite good for transferring data files, address book, favorites, etc.

However, you do have to use it carefully because the default setting is to transfer absolutely everything, including programs and even TEMP files.

Before you start make sure absolutely no folders or files have checkmarks next to them.

Then opt for choosing just the files you want to transfer.

The manual tells you what kind of a cable you need to connect your old and new computer --- and the cable may even come with the program.

Windows XP, which comes with your new computer, has a utility to help you transfer files. Some people have used it successfully, some have not.

If your old computer has USB ports, consider buying a USB data transfer bridge cable. USB bridge cables are usually packaged with a very accommodating program that opens Windows Explorer-like interfaces on both computers.

Using these interfaces - you have to make sure each computer has its version running - you can drag a file from one PC and drop it into the other one.
