 58. ODBC, What It Is

You are dealing with the Open Database Connectivity, a utility that is supposed to let you access data with any application, no matter what program created the database.
If its driver is missing or clobbered, ODBC can't do its work.
ODBC errors are scary to people who work with databases. But if everything on your system is working, the ODBC message is just an annoyance.
To stop the message, download updates to Window's Microsoft Data Access Components, which includes fixes for Open Database Connectivity.
Go to
www.microsoft.com/data to download the latest update, MDAC 2.6 Service Pack 1.
Reading through the update's FAQ, I noted that the update comes with a rollback provision in case you run into trouble. But the rollback may not work.
So go to
www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm#26sp1info and click on the MDAC 2.6 Setup FAQ hyperlink and do some reading before you update.
